The Importance of Reading
I personally think that reading is an important activity in our life. Why do I say so?
Firstly, by reading we can get a lot of information about many things in the world such as science, technology, sports, arts and culture.
Secondly, by reading we can get a lot of news and knowledge about something happening in any part of the world which we can see directly.
Thirdly, reading can give us pleasure. When we are tired, we can read books, newspapers or magazines on the entertainment column such as short stories, comedies or quizzes to make us relax.
Fourthly, reading can also take us to other parts of the world. By reading a book about Irian Jaya we may feel that we’re really sitting in the jungles, not at home in our rooms.
Based on the facts above, it is obvious that everyone needs to read books, newspapers, magazines or others to get knowledge, news, information and also entertainment. In other words, we can say reading is truly important in our life.
The Importance of Exercise
We all know that exercise is important in our daily lives, but we may not know why or what exercise can do for us. Here are some benefits of exercises.
Exercise increases energy levels. Exercise improves both the strength and the efficiency of your cardiovascular system to get the oxygen and nutrients to your muscles. When your cardiovascular system works better everything seems easier and you have more energy for the fun stuff in life.
Exercise improves muscle strength.Staying active keeps muscles strong and joints, tendons and ligaments flexible, allowing you to move more easily and avoid injury. Strong muscles and ligaments reduce your risk of joint and lower back pain by keeping joints in proper alignment. They also improve coordination and balance.
Exercise can help you to maintain a healthy weight. The more you exercise, the more calories you burn. In addition, the more muscle you develop, the higher your metabolic rate becomes, so you burn more calories even when you're not exercising. The results? You may lose weight and look better physically which will boost your self-esteem.
Exercise improves brain function. Exercise increases blood flow and oxygen levels in the brain. It also encourages the release of the brain chemicals (hormones) that are responsible for the production of cells in the hippocampus, the part of the brain that controls memory and learning. This, in turn, boosts concentration levels and cognitive ability, and helps reduce the risk of cognitive degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's

Higher Education for Women
In this modern era, there are still some parents who are hesitant about sending their daughters to college. The narrow attitude shown to women’s education is largely due to the traditional role of women in society. A womanis expected to be a wife and a mother. Most parents believe that if their daughter gets married and does not pursue a career but instead chooses to be a housewife, then the higher education will be a waste. However, an educated woman is not only a better wife but also contributes to society.
Nowadays, more and more women are successfully combining career and marriage. Educated woman are richer both emotionally and financially. They are able to find an outlet outside the drudgery and monotony of their homes. They bring more satisfaction and contentment to their lives.
Depriving girls of higher education is crass discrimination. Times have changed; modern’s society needs the talents of its people regardless of gender. Today, women work alongside men. In fact, in the last few decades, women have made outstanding contributions to society.
Woman should be given the freedom to be educated whether or not they get married or go to work after finishing their education because it is only through education that a woman will find herself useful and discover what she wants in life. Women who workis not an insult to her husband. Conversely, her husband should feel proud of her achievements since marriage is actually an equal partnership.
Therefore, parents should not think that girls should receive less education just because they will get married one day.
1. Why do some parents thing it is wasteful to send their daughter for higher education?
A. because she will leave the family and stay with her husband
B. because the parent will lose their investments
C. because she will not respect her parents
D. because she will get married and be a housewife
Smoking in restaurants is just not on. It must not be allowed because it is rude, harmful to others and dangerous for the smokers. Firstly, smoking in a restaurant is impolite. The smell of the smoke affects all people and can turn them off their food. People pay to taste good food and not to be put off by foul smelling smoke. Another reason smoking should not be allowed in restaurant is the harm it can do to others. Passive smoking that is breathing in smoke made by a smoker can lead to asthma attacks and even cancer.
Finally, smoking is dangerous and a health risk to the smokers. Cigarettes cause heart and lung disease and people should not smoke anywhere, not just in restaurants. Therefore, smoking in restaurants is impolite, harmful to others and a health risk to the smokers and should not be allowed in any restaurants.

Seat belt
Nowadays, the police have been applying the new regulation concerning the use of seat belts. In European countries, this regulation has been applied for a long time. However, this new regulation has become controversial and is an interesting topic to discuss. Here are some of the arguments.
The use of seat belts has been proven to reduce the risk of injury or death in an accident. Seat belt has become a standard component in cars. The research shows that most car accident will cause an injury to the head. Frequently, drivers or the passengers driving without seat belts die because of this. By wearing the seat belts, the injury will not happen since belts restrain our body on the car seat when the accident happens.
Unfortunately, many cars, especially the old ones, don’t have seat belts. This is because the traffic conditions in the past were unlike the recent traffic conditions. The designer of old cars didn’t consider a seat belt as an important part. Besides, the drivers wearing the seat belt will think that they are completely safe, so they may drive carelessly. They are safe, indeed, but how about safety of others?
The seat belt is only one of the ways to reduce the risk of car accidents. It doesn’t mean that we are completely safe. In short, our safety depends on ourselves.
3. What is the function of seat belts?
A. to reduce the traffic conditions
B. to become a standard component in cars
C. to reduce the risk of injury or death in an accident
D. to increase the risk of injury in car accidents
The government should Provide rehabilitation Program for Drug Users
Drug users are actually ill people who need help. Rehabilitation is one of the main things they should get. Instead of punishing drug users in prisons, the government should provide rehabilitation for them.
Most users are actually victims of persuasive peddlers and they suffer from consuming the drugs. Therefore, by rehabilitating them, we are actually helping them out from traps, which they might accidentally step on.
If we only arrest drug users and send them to jail, this doesn't solve the problem as drug users will still be addicted unless proper rehabilitation is imposed to them. Providing rehabilitation programs for drug users and forcing them to participate in the programs is better than only arresting them and doing nothing to their illness. Only drug dealers, traffickers, and wholesalers should be imprisoned.
4. Most drug users get drugs from ....
A. Jails
B. Peddlers
C. Traffickers
D. Wholesalers
The Importance of Wearing a Seatbelt
Many drivers rumble down the street without wearing their seatbelt. Despite the safety feature is often overlooked, it has an important function to protect drivers. There is a long list of reasons to wear seatbelt when driving.
First, seatbelt keeps the occupants inside the vehicle. Many people believe that being thrown out of the car is much safer for passengers as they can avoid crash. In fact, the fatality rate for passengers who are thrown from the vehicle is 4 times higher than those inside the car. Second, seatbelt helps restrain body at the strongest parts. The meant parts are hips and shoulder, so the safety feature provides optimum protection to the body.
The next reason to wear a seatbelt is to protect brain and spinal cord, two vulnerable areas of our body. In the event of a car crash, seat belt restrains our body to avoid collision. The last but not least, wearing seatbelt makes you pass through highway inspection. In conclusion, wearing seatbelt is important because it keeps passengers inside the vehicle, helps restrain out body and protects vulnerable areas.
5. The word ‘it’ in the last line refers to …..
Vehicle
Passenger
Seatbelt
Our body
Cramming is Bad
How do you study when the test is coming? Do you start preparing for the test weeks or months before the test or leave things to the last hour? If you start studying weeks or months before the test, it is great. However, if you study all the material in the last hour or minute, it is not good for you and it is called cramming.
Cramming is the situation when students stay up until morning to study before their test. This habit can lead to negative impacts for some reason. The first reason is that disruptions in the regular sleep cycle can cause temporary intellectual lapses. For most students, less sleep can make them could not focus in the class. Additionally, cramming can leave us with “something that I have seen before” in our memory. However, being able to recognize something is not the same as being able to recall it. Besides that, each person has their different sleeping time, so some of them often use a stimulant for cramming. Furthermore, that stimulant gives bad effect to its consumers.
The example stimulant is coffee. It causes many problems such as Caffeine Intoxication Syndrome, anxiety, panic, headaches, and so on. To sum up, cramming is bad because it disturbs our regular sleep cycle which cause temporary intellectualn lapses and using stimulant for cramming gives bad effect to our health.

👾 Characteristics of Narrative Text

- The tenses that are employed are those that depict past events > Past Tense.
- Action verb
The use of action verbs in narrative text is one of the characteristics that need to be remembered. Action verb is a verb that shows an action of a character.
- Direct speech
If you read a narration, you will surely notice that there are quotes taken from the conversations of the characters in the story. This is also known as direct speech. Dialogue between characters is very important to write so that important information can be conveyed in an interesting way and the story will feel more 'lively'. In addition, this will also make it easier for readers to understand the contents of the story.
- Adverbs of time which are commonly used at the beginning of sentences, such as long time ago, once, one, once upon a time.
👾 Narrative Text Structure
1. Orientation
Orientation is one of the characteristics or structures of a narrative text that must be written at the beginning of a story. In orientation, it usually begins with the introduction of the characters, when an event occurs, the background of the story, and other explanations so that the reader understands and is familiar with the dimensions in the story.
2. Climax/Complication
After the introduction, the story will be immediately followed by conflicts and problems which are also known as climax or complications. The problem presented in the narrative usually involves the main character in a story. In this section, the reader usually begins to know who the antagonist and protagonist are.
3. Resolution
The problem has occurred, we finally arrive at the conclusion of a story called resolution. Usually in this section there is a solution to the problems in the complication section earlier. Problems solved can get better or worse. Later a story will have a happy ending or a sad ending. However, sometimes a story can also end with a twist ending and even a 'hanging' ending (cliffhanger) to maintain interest and tension for the reader. Usually, texts that have this ending are in the mystery, thriller, or horror genres.
4. Re-orientation
Although there is already a cover or solution to a problem, there is also an optional re-orientation section. This section does not always exist in a fiction because it usually only contains moral lessons, advice, or teachings from the author.

Finally, spring arrived. One day, the duckling saw a gorgeous swan swimming within the lake and fell in love with her. Then again he remembered how everybody made fun of him and he bent his head down in shame. Once he saw his own reflection in the water he was astonied. He wasn’t an unsightly duckling any longer, but a handsome young swan! Now, he knew why he had looked so completely different from his brothers and sisters. “They were ducklings but I used to be a baby swan!” he said to himself. Ludwig van Beethoven was born on December 17, 1770, in Bonn, Germany. He was the son of a tenor vocalist named Johann van Beethoven. Maria Magdalena van Beethoven was his mother's name. His childhood he spent just like a child in general playing and studying. However, his father who is an artist later also educated Ludwig van Beethoven by practicing the piano for hours. He wanted his son to be like Mozart.
When a music composition tutor named Christian Gottlob Neefe saw Beethoven's tremendous musical talent, he began to teach him about Johann Sebastian Bach's musical creations. Beethoven's first work was published in 1783. Beethoven published three sonatas for the then-prince of Bonn, Franz Xaver Stelker, in the same year. Beethoven went to Vienna to study with Mozart on the prince's orders in 1787.
Seeing Beethoven's ability, Mozart was amazed and said that he saw one of the best composers in the world in the future. But his meeting with Mozart did not last long. Beethoven immediately rushed back because his mother, Maria Magdalene, was seriously ill and died in 1787. After his mother died, Beethoven took care of his two younger siblings. He took his father's salary for his two younger siblings and worked as a piano tutor for the nobles.
He was depressed, despite the fact that he had completed several compositions since the concert. Beethoven's kidney illness caused him to get a high fever in 1826. His life could not be saved, and he died at the age of fifty-seven on March 26, 1827. He was laid to rest in Vienna, Austria.
